Thermocouple
has many advantages, including high response speed, good durability at extreme temperatures, and the ability to measure temperatures over a very wide range.
How a Thermocouple Works
Basically, a thermocouple has two main parts:
1. Junction (thermocouple connection): This is the point where two dissimilar metals are connected. When the temperature at this connection point changes, the resulting voltage also changes.
2. Conductors (wires): Connecting cables that connect thermocouple connections to voltage meters or other reading devices.
The voltage produced is very small and depends on the temperature difference between the two connections (hot junction and cold junction). Therefore, to get an accurate temperature reading, calculations must be made based on the voltage produced and the type of metal material used in the thermocouple.
Advantage: Thermocouple
- Wide Temperature Range: Thermocouples can measure temperatures in a very wide range, from low temperatures to very high temperatures.
- Fast Response Speed: Thermocouples provide a fast response to temperature changes, making them ideal for applications that require fast temperature measurements.
- Resistant to High Temperatures: Many types of thermocouples, such as type K and type N, can withstand very high temperatures, making them a good choice for extreme temperature applications.
- Durability and Reliability: Thermocouples have long life and resistance to harsh environmental conditions, such as vibration, humidity, and chemicals.
