Coffee beans only grow under certain conditions—high altitudes, lots of water, and lots of sunlight. Areas that support these conditions can be found around the center of the world, or what is also known as the Coffee Bean Belt. Indonesia is located within this belt, being the 4th largest coffee producer in the world.

Of all the types of specialty coffee in the world, the two most widely grown are Robusta and Arabica. Interestingly, geographical differences can influence the character of coffee, resulting in various types of single origin coffee which are named according to their origins. Several types of single origin coffee that are popular in Indonesia include Aceh Gayo, Mandheling and Toraja coffee.
